[ARCHIVED] Tennova hosts critical incident exercise

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Area first responders and Tennova Healthcare-Clarksville tested capabilities and procedures Saturday, Feb. 29 as Tennova hosted a Critical Incident Exercise with area law enforcement, fire and EMS officials.

The exercise was kicked off by an announcement through the dispatch center about an armed intruder inside of the hospital that escalated into shots fired with numerous injuries. Assigned role players created a chaotic environment with simulated injuries, sights and sounds that amped up the adrenaline for the participants.

The first responders were taxed physically and mentally as they maneuvered through the exercise scenario, using teamwork to locate the intruder and treat the injured. The role players were carried and transported, depending on their casualty status to the emergency room for treatment.

Evaluators kept a watchful eye to ensure safety, identify potential improvement areas and keep the exercise moving.  Based on preliminary observations, the exercise was deemed a success, providing valuable feedback to first responders and Tennova offials.

The spirit of cooperation and a can-do attitude was evident as the exercise helped prepare local agencies and officials for real world situations.
