[ARCHIVED] Gas & Water observes Public Natural Gas Week

Clarksville Gas and Water

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Clarksville Gas & Water will observe national Public Natural Gas Week from Oct. 6 to 12. This annual nationwide event is intended to build public awareness about the value of having a community-owned natural gas utility.

On Oct. 11, the public is invited to join Gas & Water for a hot dog lunch and to learn about the benefits of natural gas. The events will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at both customer service centers, 2215 Madison St. and 2015 Fort Campbell Blvd. Food and giveaways will be available while they last!

Important information on the environmental and cost benefits of using clean, reliable and affordable natural gas will be available.

Clarksville Gas is one of approximately 1,000 public natural gas systems serving more than 5 million customers. These public natural gas utilities are not-for-profit retail distribution entities that are owned by and accountable to the citizens they serve. They include municipal gas distribution systems, public utility districts, county districts, and other public agencies that have natural gas distribution facilities.

Public natural gas utilities are good for their communities for many reasons, including:

  • Local Control: Having a public natural gas system gives a community local control over how gas is provided to homes and businesses. Decisions are made through citizen participation instead of being made in a distant city by people who do not understand local issues and who are primarily focused on profits instead of service.
  • Competitive Costs: Public natural gas systems operate as not-for-profit entities, and offer fair and competitive rates. Public systems do not face pressure to pay dividends to stockholders.
  • Economic Benefits: A public natural gas system plays a valuable role in helping a community broaden its tax base, thus improving the local economy and increasing jobs. Public natural gas systems ensure that local dollars stay at home.
  • Customer Service: Not-for-profits focus on service, rather than profits. Public natural gas systems are an integral part of a community, maintaining a close relationship with customers and their needs.

Clarksville Gas is proud to bring safe, reliable natural gas into customers’ homes and businesses, and invites residents to support natural gas as a premier energy source for America.  As the cleanest burning fossil fuel, natural gas can help achieve energy security and build a more competitive economy.

Information about the benefits of natural gas may be viewed on the Gas & Water website at www.clarksvillegw.com, or contact the Gas department at (931) 645-7422.
