[ARCHIVED] Clarksville elected officials sworn in

 Clarksville elected officials sworn in

Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts and seven members of the City Council were administered the oath of office in a special council session held Wednesday afternoon at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center.

Mayor Pitts took the oath from City Judge Charles Smith, and now begins his second term in the City's highest office.

"Serving in elected office, especially a local government office, is a great honor," said Mayor Pitts.  "I look forward to continuing the progress we have made over the past four years, and will work diligently to ensure our city is safe for everyone. While we have enjoyed tremendous prosperity, we still have work to do."

On Nov. 8, 2021, Mayor Pitts was re-elected for a second term, in the 2022 State General and Clarksville City Elections.

Council members who took the oath of office from Mayor Pitts after being elected on Nov. 8 included Brian Zacharias, Ward 1; Deanna McLaughlin, Ward 2; Ambar Marquis, Ward 5; Wanda Smith, Ward 6; Travis Holleman, Ward 7; Stacey Streetman, Ward 10; and Joe Shakeenab, Ward 11.

Wednesday afternoon's swearing-in ceremony also featured the election of a Mayor Pro Tem, Councilperson Wanda Smith, and presentation of certificates of election to each of the newly sworn-in City officials, from Montgomery County Administrator of Elections Elizabeth Black.

Ceremonies featured  the Clarksville Fire Rescue Honor Guard posting the colors, prayer delivered by Pastor Katherine Minor Walker of New Jerusalem 5 Fold Ministries, and the National Anthem sung by Lavon Bracey.
