[ARCHIVED] Clarksville to assist ‘Plant a Tree for Tennessee’

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The City of Clarksville is partnering with the Tennessee Environmental Council to help distribute bare-root seedlings for the “Plant a Tree for Tennessee” event from 9 a.m. to noon at Edith Pettus Park on April 24, 2021.

The event will build on the recent success of Clarksville’s Arbor Day Celebration and TN Tree Day distribution initiatives.

Kathrine Killebrew, City Forester with Clarksville Parks & Recreation, said planting trees in Clarksville offers a number of benefits.

“By purchasing a tree and planting it here in Clarksville, we not only increase Clarksville’s canopy rates, but it also helps control stormwater runoff, improves air quality, supports wildlife, and much more,” Killebrew said.

Each tree is available for a $1.99 donation and the available varieties are:

  • Buttonbush
  • Indigo Bush
  • Northern Red Oak
  • Redbud
  • Red Mulberry
  • Sweetgum
  • Tulip Poplar
  • Witch Hazel
  • Sycamore
  • Deciduous Holly
  • Eastern Red Cedar
  • Paw Paw

Anyone interested in making a donation and reserving a tree should visit the Tennessee Environmental Council’s website at greeninterchange.org/plant-a-tree-for-tn to order and discover more specifications on the variety of trees offered.
