CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Swan Lake Tennis Complex at 2002 Sanders Road received significant equipment upgrades thanks to a $10,000 grant from the United States Tennis Association Tennessee that will be split between the City of Clarksville and Austin Peay State University.
The USTA TN is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote and develop the game of tennis in Tennessee to its highest potential.
The equipment delivered Wednesday, April 7 included biohazard kits and court sponges; benches, nets, score markers and ball caddies; and a message board, clock and court signs.
Tina Boysha, Athletics Superintendent with Clarksville Parks & Recreation, said the new items will improve the tennis facility.
“We are so grateful for the new equipment. It will not only help our tennis program, but anyone who comes to these courts to play can take advantage of the upgraded equipment.”
Mayor Joe Pitts said he was pleased to see the park’s tennis facilities getting some renewed attention.
“Tennis is an established sport and it’s good to see our existing courts get these upgrades,” Mayor Pitts said. “This means we have another opportunity to maximize our facilities, and get our residents and families engaged in this affordable, high-energy sport.”
In addition to the new equipment, the USTA TN is planning a “Day of Tennis” event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Swan Lake Tennis Complex on April 17. USTA TN staff members will be on hand for the event to answer questions and introduce the game of tennis to anyone interested.
Director of Community Tennis and Special Events, Kim Wilson, said Clarksville is a focus for the organization. “We would love to see the sport of tennis continue to grow in Clarksville at the same speed that the city is growing. Our Day of Tennis will provide an opportunity for anyone of any age to learn about the game.”
The event will be free and open to the public.
